1985 to 2022; Director of the Corporate Golf Academy Programme.

Golf coaching programme director with the Golf Academy Programme since 1990.

These roles included the development and implementation of the golf teaching programmes for the Academy’s company clients, low handicap players, beginners and junior golfers and the sole responsibility for the running of the various schools and the preparation and controls of all the related logistics including travel, budgets, programme of events, golf programme content, venue booking, accommodation and F&B requirements.

Since its inception in 1985 the Corporate Golf Academy has run over five hundred half day, full day and residential academies throughout Southern Africa for a large variety of companies including, South African Airways, South African Broadcasting Corporation, Avis Lease, Delta Motor Corporation, Adcorp Holdings, BMC, Ballantines Whisky, MSC, The Sunday Times, Business Day, Vodacom Cellular, Sun International and Sanlam.

The Corporate Golf Academy programme provides introductory ‘try golf’ content through to all of the requisite disciplines essential to the development of a better and more advanced player including, swing analysis, psychology, course management, effective practice techniques, the history of golf, etiquette, the rules, motor skills programmes for young players, etc.

The programme’s pupil ‘audience’ has been extremely broad based and has ranged from TV audiences, to groups of female company executives and from beginners and school children to low handicap golfers and previously disadvantaged development players.

Other:

  • Junior Foundation coach for ten years; several pupils went on to win prestigious open amateur events in South Africa, five turned professional, one is now the Director of Golf at a premier golf estate in South Africa and a former pupil reached the final of the US Amateur Championship on two occasions.

  • Venue manager and programme consultant to South Africa Golf Journal Golf Schools: prepared the teaching content and set up the venues and programme of events.

  • Developed two national Golf Academy Series for the new business development division of the SABC: company golf schools were run over 4 years in 5 of South Africa’s provinces on behalf of the SABC.

  • Prepared a development critique and development coaching strategy for the Central Gauteng Golf Union in 2009.

  • Former contributor to the South Africa Golf Journal and provided written articles, golf instruction and comment for a wide range of publications including The Compleat Golfer, Rapport, Business Day, ThisDay, Tee to Green, SA Golf Trader, The Muscat Daily, Golf Digest and Supersport TV.

  • Developed and wrote the copy for ‘What’s Golf Got To Do With It?’; the text was serialised in the National newspaper Thisday in South Africa, provided four Compleat Golfer magazine articles and it was also used as the base content for five inserts on MNet Supersport’s Breaking Series in South Africa in 2009.

  • Completed a second text, ‘How To Practise Less More Often’: this provides the guest swing notes for the Corporate Golf Academy and has been published in serial form in Tee & Sandwedges, the Muscat Daily – Oman’s largest and most ‘influential’ English language daily newspaper and is the back copy to the VLT in the Business of Golf Magazine.
